Teen camp is off to a fantastic start! The bus ride went well and we arrived at Goldeye with time to unpack the bus and head to lunch. For lunch, we enjoyed tacos and potato salad. After lunch, campers got introduced to their counsellors and got to know their small groups that they'll be working with over the next week.
The campers had some time to get their cabins organized. After getting settled into cabins, we went on a tour of Goldeye. Our tour ended in the dining hall where we indulged in popsicles for a quick snack. Campers and counsellors then played a camp wide game of octopus tag, which introduced our social skillslesson of the day on communication.
After the game of octopus tag, campers were split into their groups. Most of the time at camp, the 30 campers are divided into two groups. Generally, the younger campers in the group are in one group while the older campers are in another. Each group of 15 campers is led by 4 counsellors and a head counsellor.
One group began their interactive lesson while the other group created name tags and played some name games. The groups then switched activities. Once each group finished up the activities, it was time for dinner. For dinner we had lasagna and it was yummy! We cleaned up after the tasty dinner and then began our evening game of capture the flag.
After the intense game, we then ended our evening with our first campfire of the week. Tonight we introduced our spirit award, Arnold The Monkey. It was an action packed first day and tomorrow brings even more activities.
