August 14
It is the middle of our week at Camp Amicus, and we’re not
slowing down! We began our day as always, with breakfast, before transitioning
to camp-wide game.
Today, we played Temple of Doom. With our entire team
divided into four, one of the three teams collects as much loot as possible from
the opposite side of the field, while the other three teams lob dodgeballs at
them. It is, in my opinion, far and away the most photogenic camp-wide game.
We moved after to social skill, which today was teasing and
embarrassing feedback. Giving feedback is an integral part of one’s life and professional
career, and knowing how to do so in a way that is constructive, rather than
negative, is crucial!
We had some free time before lunch, after which we moved to
skill block. Thunder and rain once again meant canoeing couldn’t get on the
water, and our two groups learning outdoor skills had some trouble with making
a fire, but once fires were made, so was bannock!
After skill block came rest hour, which was much appreciated
by many. Then we had choice! Today we offered, photography, bead animal making,
Minute to Win It style games, and the camp classic cardio Pictionary. This took
us until 6pm, at which point we had some free time before dinner.
Instead of our usual second camp-wide game, tonight we had a
camp-wide dance! A mixture of throwback songs, slow ballads, and Old Town Road
meant that the room was full of energy, and also ensured that every one of us
went into bedtime ready for a good night’s rest.
