I am happy to report that all campers and counsellors made it to Goldeye safe and sound!
We arrived at camp just in time for a yummy lunch. After lunch everyone had some time to get settled into their cabins. After this, Taz, one of our head counsellors, took us on a tour of camp. It was drizzling a little bit throughout the afternoon but we still managed to play a camp wide game of red light/green light.
The game was a great lead-in to our first Social Skills lesson on communication. For this activity, we split into our counsellor groups with half doing an interactive lesson on communication and the other half making name tags and playing name games. Every camper came up with a SMART goal to accomplish during camp.
Campers were tired after the long drive and busy afternoon so they had a little down time before a tasty supper of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, buns, peas, salad and jello for dessert. The rain picked up so we played minute to win it games and jeopardy inside. A snack of popsicles left the kids with colourful tongues that they had fun showing off to everyone.
We ended our evening with an indoor campfire where we sang some songs and introduced this year's Spirit Award. By bedtime, the campers were all tired and ready for a good night's rest. Monday's big activity will be horseback riding with the horses from Chungo Creek Outfitters. So,keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine!
Below are a few photos from our first day showing that no matter what the weather, there's lots to do to have fun at camp.
Take care,
