Day Camp 3 - Tuesday

July 30

Today was a special day! During the time that we would usually have choice in the afternoon, we headed to Southland Leisure Centre!

We began our day as we do every other, in our 2:6 groups for a Zones of Regulation check-in, and moving to camp-wide game afterwards.

Our camp-wide game today was Human Tracker. With the exception of three 'trackers' and an accompanying counsellor, Human Tracker begins with giving everyone else five minutes to hide. Once five minutes is up, three trackers must find everyone hidden and tag them. Human Tracker can be a laid-back game if your team is well-hidden, but if you're found, be ready to run!

Social skill came next. Each day, we spend a block of time learning a specific social skill that will be useful going forward in life. We do this through a variety of activities per skill, in our head counsellor teams. For example, our social skill today was reading and responding to other's emotions. Knowing how a peer feels based on body language, tone of voice, vocabulary choice or facial expression can help make informed decisions on how to interact with that peer.

We had a half an hour of free time after social skill, with which everyone changed into their swimsuits as so to get us maximum time in the pool.

After we ate lunch, it was off to Southland!

After life jackets were distributed to campers and staff, we had around two hours of access to all of the pool's facilities, including two water slides, hot tub and diving board.

We got ready to board the bus around 2:45, which gave us enough time for a Zones of Regulation check once back to Foothills Academy to end the day. Before that, though, head counsellor Luna got pied in the face due to it being one of our campers' birthdays today.
