Overnight Camp 1 - Monday

August 5

Today marks our first full day at Kamp Kiwanis! It was also the first instance of camp favourite activity Polar Bear Dip. Those brave enough hop in and out of the pool at 8am sharp all week will get special bling for their braids! It’s sure to wake you up.

Following this, it was time for camp-wide game. Each day, we play a game as an entire group, staff included. Today’s game was called Gold Rush, a capture the flag style game wherein each of the two teams have a pile of loot, and the objective is to end the game with as much as possible, both through guarding you own team’s pile and taking for the other team.

We had a transition time after this, and then it was time for Social Skill! Most days, we have a 1-hour block dedicated to teaching a specific social skill, through a mixture of brainstorming, games and activities. Today’s social skill was Leadership! Campers learned the value of having a strong leader, identified good and bad traits of a leader, took turns leading each other through an obstacle course, and more!

After social skill, we had some free time, and then it was time for lunch. We then spent time in our head counsellor groups either learning outdoor skills, such as fire starting, horseback riding at Homeplace Ranch, or swimming/archery. Each head counsellor group will get the chance to do each of these activities this week!

Afterwards, it was time for choice. Each day this week, we will be running choice programs, which focus on a specific activity for a 1-hour block, except choice programs are focused more on having fun than education. Our choices today were sponge dodgeball, screen-printing t-shirts, or tie-dying. We then half a half hour of free time before supper.

After supper, we had our second camp-wide game of the day, capture the flag in the woods. Then, it was time to get showered and ready for bed. We are maintaining our 1:3 ratio of counsellors to campers at night, as well!

For our first full day at Camp Amicus, it was a busy one!
