Overnight Camp 1 - Tuesday

August 6

It was a busy day for us here at Camp Amicus! With it being our second full day, we are all getting used to the routines and schedule, which lets us have more time for fun!

After getting breakfast in us first thing, most of us transitioned to camp-wide game! One group of 6 travelled to Homeplace Ranch for their horseback riding session. Today’s game was force field, another one of many capture the flag style games in our repertoire. Two teams take turns ‘invading’ and ‘defending,’ with the object of the game being for the invading team to get as many of the defending team’s flags as they can in the set time limit.

It was then time for social skill! Today’s social skill was feedback. In this skill, we learned how to give the most helpful feedback, as well as identifying helpful and non-helpful feedback. Some social skill groups fashioned their own games, with their peers practicing giving positive feedback to their new games.

We had a half an hour of free time after this, and then it was lunchtime! We then spent time in our head counsellor group, either learning outdoor skills, horseback riding, or learning to canoe! Our canoeing group got the hang of it remarkably!

We had a rest hour after this. In this time, we all stay in our bunks, either sleeping, reading, or doing another quiet activity. Once rest hour had concluded, it was time for choice. Our choices today were making elastic band cars, a portrait photography 101, or Cardio Pictionary! Cardio Pictionary is another camp classic game, where teams have a list of pictures to guess. The catch is, the list is with one of three counsellors, and players need to catch them before they can get a word!

It was dinner time afterwards, and then we moved to Hydro Pyro, another capture the flag game, except the aim is to extinguish a fire on the other team’s side of the field. We got ready for bed afterwards.
