Overnight Camp 1 - Thursday

August 8

Today was our last full day of overnight camp! It has been a busy week, full of laughter and sunshine, and we are all quite tired.

Our day began with Polar Bear dip for those who chose to partake, and it began for all of us with breakfast, followed by camp-wide game. Our last group went horseback riding today as well. Our camp-wide game was dress the beast, a capture the flag style game that has one counsellor covered head to toe in props from our dress-up bin. If a member of the opposite team gets to the beast, they take one piece of clothing for their team's beast. Social skill followed.

Our social skill was blowing off steam, and involved discussing helpful versus non-helpful methods of working to de-escalate oneself. This is a crucial skill for everyone to practice!

We then had some free time, lunch, and then we spent time in our head counsellor groups. With today being the last, day, each head counsellor group has now taken part in archery/swimming, canoeing, and outdoor skills.

Afterwards, we had a double block of choice instead of our usual rest hour, and then we had Kangaroo Court. A highlight of the week for many, we all got to watch counsellor Brotula and our program coordinator Chinook get covered in green slime!

We had dinner afterwards, and then proceeded to the smaller of Kamp Kiwanis' two fire pits for our end-of-camp campfire. We had ten wonderful performances from campers and staff alike, and this was also the time when each of our amazing campers received their awards!

Once we'd all made s'mores, we travelled back to our bunks as a group and got ready for bed. We have an early departure tomorrow, so fingers crossed for a restful night for all.
