Overnight Camp 1 - Wednesday

August 7

Today was a wonderful, high-energy day for Camp Amicus! We began our day with breakfast, and I joined one of our groups for photos of horseback riding shortly after. While we were gone, the rest of camp continued with their usual schedule, meaning camp-wide game followed breakfast.

Today’s camp-wide game was Human Tracker, which is something of a blend of hide-and-seek and tag. Campers have 5 minutes to hide from a small group of trackers, and if they are found, have the option to run away. Either way, if they are tagged, they become trackers.

Afterwards, we had social skill, which today was appropriate use of humour. Campers identified what sorts of jokes were camp-appropriate, which weren’t and why. Laughs were had by all! This is an important social skill for our day-to-day lives, because as much as everyone loves to laugh, not all jokes are okay at camp.

We had free time afterwards, and then it was time for lunch. This is when the first horseback riding group returned to Kamp Kiwanis. We spent time in our head counsellor groups afterwards, with another group going horseback riding, with the rest of us either canoeing, doing social skill, or swimming/archery. Rest hour followed, and then it was time for choice.

Our choices this afternoon were photography, bead animal making, or the camp classic game Temple of Doom. We had free time after choice, and then it was suppertime.

Instead of our usual second camp-wide game, we had a camp-wide dance in the dining hall! We all went to bed very tired afterwards.
