Day one has been fantastic and filled with many adventures! We arrived safe and sound to a delicious lunch, after which we got settled into our cabins.
Campers and Counsellors then began a camp wide game called Aztec Ball. When the game ended we had a Sorting Ceremony to kick off our Harry Potter theme as campers were sorted into Camp Amicus houses; House Embredor and House Firesong.
The House groups then separated to continue with the day's planned activities.
One group worked on Communication, our first Social Skill of Camp. In this Social Skill lesson campers learned through games to practice their verbal and nonverbal communication skills. The other group played some name games and made name tags to help us all get to know each other.
After the groups had switched activities, we got into our swimsuits and hit the lake (it was a much needed cool down). Following a nice and refreshing swim we had some free choice activities. Campers could pick between field games, inside games and some down time.
Dinner came next and oh boy was it ever yummy!
After dinner we learned about our Camp Amicus House Point System. Campers and Counsellors will get the opportunity to collect House Points for their House Teams. They can collect points by doing many things such as displaying positive behaviour, using their social skills and being a good role model.
The House Team with the most House Points at the end of each night will receive the Spirit Award in recognition of their collective effort that day.
We also all made our Warm Fuzzy Bags today, Warm Fuzzy's are notes that campers send and receive, they are way for Campers to give each other compliments and enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling when they get one in return.
We then played another Camp Wide Game called Human Pac Man that everyone really enjoyed!
Our night ended with our first campfire where we sang lots of camp songs and enjoyed an evening snack. It was a busy first day and there is much more to come tomorrow.
Stay tuned for the next update!
All the best,
Dori
Can you please make sure the rattlin bog becomes a compulsory campfire song...
