Hello Family and Friends,
Our first morning together started off with a pancake breakfast and the first House Points Ceremony. Campers were recognized for holding doors, clean bunks, cleaning tables, volunteering to help, being a good sport, showing kindness to others and much more.
When the ceremony ended we all helped clean up and then headed outside because at Camp Amicus a little rain never stops us from having fun!
We played a camp wide game called Criss Cross. Campers had to work together as a team to get across the field while avoiding other teams the trick was they were given different tasks. They had to do things like link arms with their teammates, make conga line, form a circle and more.
We finished up the game which meant it was time for House Group Activities. The Social Skills lesson today was Having a Conversation and Making Friends. In this lesson campers learned the acronym FEVER that can be used to remember what a good conversation looks like. They also created a Friendship Collage, where they listed characteristics of a good friend. Campers got to participate in interactive role plays where they got to help the characters shape their behaviours to promote positive conversational skills.
The morning activity was for campers to tie dye their Camp Amicus t-shirts. After these activities we enjoyed another delicious meal prepared by the fantastic cooks here at Goldeye. Following lunch we jumped at the opportunity to take out the canoes and hit the lake as the rain had stopped. Some free choice time came next and campers could decide between games in the field house or some down time in their cabins. Following this we split up into groups to make wands, write warm fuzzy's and play some Minute to Win It Games. These activities took us all the way to dinner. After dinner we went to the field to play Prey and Predator.
When the game ended we made our way to campfire. It was an exciting campfire as Head Master Dori made an appearance to announce the House Team that would receive the Spirit Award that evening. I must say it was a super close tally with a difference of only seven House Points. House Teams have been super supportive of each other and together we are all working on making camp the best it can be. The campers have shown exceptional leadership and camp has been a blast. Today a group of campers planned a skit on conversational and communication skills they have learned at camp. The whole group got to enjoy as we watched their performance.
We are excited about what is to come as this was only the first full day. We have lots in store for Tuesday, including our first Goldeye programmed activities.
Until next time,
Dori
