Choose your own Adventure!
What a big day today was at camp! Of course we started with our polar bear dip, but right after breakfast it was right into activities!
Our morning was spent going rock climbing, and doing archery. It was amazing to see how many Robin Hood's and Katniss's we have in our group! It was great to see so many campers challenging themselves at the rock climbing wall. I always feel so lucky to be at camp. One of the campers asked me today what my favourite part of camp is. I thought the question would be hard to answer, but it was surprisingly easy.
My favourite part of camp is watching campers find new skills, challenge themselves and find success. The rock wall is a very visual way that we see this, but I see it in many other ways at camp too. When campers beam about how they used one of their strategies to calm down, or when they get a special piece of bling for problem solving a social problem with another camper.
I am always blown away by the empathy, care and love that can happen between our campers. There is a wisdom that can come out of their shared experiences, and their ability to connect so easily with each other. It is truly magical up here.
This afternoon we spent time learning some social skills about humour, and jokes in our group, as well as how to decide when a game should be competitive, and how to use games, and play as a way to build friendships.
After our social skills, we had Choice! Campers could play paint tag, go swimming, play parachute games, or write letters home. Campers got to pick two choices and do each for an hour. My choices were to go to letter writing, and then I went down to the dock to lifeguard our second set of swimmers.
To say that our campers had blast would be an understatement.
Our evening ended with a talent show, and wow are our campers talented! I can still hear some lovely songs, and am still laughing at some really great jokes. One of our campers even solved a rubics cube faster than I have ever seen!
It has been a great day at camp, and I am excited for tomorrow.

P.S. Sorry that this blog post is a bit later at night. Sometimes I get carried away with all the fun stuff happening at camp.
