July 5, 2019
It’s Friday, and the weekend is very nearly upon us, but we
had a busy day here at camp!
After check-in, our day began as all others, with a quick
Zones of Regulation check-in. Soon, we moved to a true camp classic: Human
Tracker. Campers and counsellors are split into a 1:3 ratio, get five minutes
to hide, and have one objective: Don’t get tagged by the human tracker.
The large-scale game of hide-and-seek took place across a
large portion of the Foothills Academy: in classrooms, the gym, the school’s
stairwells, and there was one group who was never found. They won’t tell us
their secret hiding place.
We then transitioned to social skill. Today’s skill was
de-escalating conflict. Campers brainstormed and drew methods of settling a
disagreement, as well as navigated scenarios that require them to work as a
team to calm an argument and work toward a common objective. Props to the
counsellors who ran a social skill today.
After social skill, it was time for clubs. Sports club
played soccer, cooking club put the finishing touches on the pretzels they
began yesterday, art club was a flurry of creative energy, with just as many
paper airplanes. I counted at two stuck on the ceiling this afternoon.
Last but not least, I hear that music club is moving forward
on an original composition.
Campers had four new options in Choice today, including the
first of our portrait photography workshops. We have a set of 12 point and
shoot cameras that the Foothills Academy has allowed us to use for camp,
allowing groups of counsellors to explore the school, as well as outside, to
take pictures of one another. A selection of pictures taken in this choice will
be included in the end-of-camp slideshow!
As always, our day ended with a Zones of Regulation check-in
and Steps in the Right Direction.
Have a wonderful weekend!
