Day Camp 2 - Wednesday

July 24

Happy Wednesday! The middle of the week can be tough, and although we kept today relatively low-key because of it, we were busy all day. Today began as all our days do at Camp Amicus, in our 2:6 counsellor group for our Zones of Regulation check-in, and then camp-wide game.

Today’s game was Gold Rush, another in our repertoire of capture the flag style games. Each team has a stash of gold (beanbags), and the aim is to have as much gold on one’s team’s side of the field by the end as possible. If on is tagged on the other side of the field, it’s straight to jail! One’s teammates are able to rescue one person at a time.

Today, our friends in Polaris joined us in social skill, up until lunch. Polaris is our teen leadership program for those who have outgrown Camp Amicus.

Our social skill today was digital communication. In an increasingly digital age, we must be conscientious of the things we do and say online. Campers brainstormed both good and bad things to be posting online (such as cute pictures of their dog vs their address, respectively), which was followed by a debrief. In counsellor Bolt’s social skill, campers also had a look at various emoji, the emotions they represent, and how they can mean different things to different people.

Next was clubs! Art club made their own custom pompoms, cooking club made delicious brownies, and sports club played a dodgeball style game with lots of running. As always, sports club was hungry and sweaty by the time clubs were done.

Music club has furthered work on their end-of-week performance.

We followed this with half an hour of free time, and then lunch. Afterwards, it was time for Choice. Our choices today were bling/sensory stick making, coding on our Chromebooks, Human Tracker around the school, Pokémon GO in the gym, and because last night’s thunderstorm interrupted some folks’ sleep, we had a fifth choice today, rest hour.

After Choice had concluded, we ended our day with Steps in the Right direction and our Zones of Regulation check-in.
