Ready, aim.... Rock climbing!

Hello All,

What a wonderful day we have been having at camp!

Our morning started with the polar bear dip, and some relaxing
activities in the dining hall before our pancakes, waffles and eggs
(and cereal of course). The vibe around camp today has been very
relaxed. Campers have definitely found their groove, so to speak.

The morning was spent with our first Paddle Canada Waterfront Canoeing
lesson (https://www.paddlecanada.com/) and learning social skills
about humor and how to read other peoples reaction to humor.

After a great lunch of sloppy joe's, salad and fries, we headed off to
adventure. The afternoon was spent learning how to rock climb, and
some archery skills. To say that our campers excelled would be an
understatement. I saw so many campers find success through both
activities, it was a pleasure to watch.

The thing that struck me most is how caring and supportive the campers
are with each other. Sometimes it is a high five, for hitting the
bulls eye, or a 'I know you can do it' at the rock wall. It is also
the quieter moments, making some bling for our braids while waiting to
shoot at archery, when they share some of their stories about their
LD's or ADHD with each other. The words 'I totally get it' and 'I felt
the same way' were repeated between campers. There is an understanding
here at Camp Amicus, that there is a lot more to all of us than our
diagnosis, and that we inherently understand each other.

I cannot tell you all how excited I am to see our campers shine very
brightly tonight at the Talent Show, and the support and cheering that
our performers will get. From the practicing I heard yesterday, I know
that we are in for a treat!

All the best from camp,

Kathleen "Quack Quack" Gurski
