What an exciting day we have had thus far.
This morning we played our Camp Wide Game which was Temple of Doom. Our campers got to run and collect jewels while avoiding all of the obstacles. This is a great game because all campers get a chance to try each of the roles; either running through the 'temple of doom' or throwing dodgeballs at the runners. It is a camp classic!
After Temple of Doom, we moved into our social skills for the day. We worked on how to create and maintain friendships with our peers. We also talked about what compliments are, how to give compliments, and the importance of giving our friends compliments. Campers partook in several activities including; 'Find my BFF', 'Friendship Mingle' and the '$5 vs. $500 Compliment' activity. Make you sure you ask your campers about these activities when they get home!
This year, we have introduced a new program called 'Clubs.' Campers choose the club that they want to attend for their time while at camp. We have the fine arts club, the arts and crafts club, and the sports club! Every few days, they get to go to their club of choice, where they are able to meet new friends, and develop new skills. Today at the fine arts club, campers got to play ukulele and use the boomwackers to create some awesome sound! The sports club played a fantastic game of football, and the arts and crafts club made 3D cubes! It was amazing to see campers socialize with different peers, and use the skills that we talked about previously this morning.
It is a hot day at camp today which means....water day! We are currently running our choice program afternoon, and campers have the choice of going to water games outside, parachute games, or button making! As I look out my window right now, I see campers playing on the inflatable splash bowling slip and slide! Yep, you heard right! It looks like such a good time, and I have seen nothing but smiles and laughter. I can't wait to go join in a minute or two!
Just a reminder that we will be heading to Calaway Park tomorrow! Please make sure that your campers are wearing sunscreen, and that they bring a hat, water bottle and a lunch with snacks (peanut free, of course). Tomorrow morning, campers will be given a Camp Amicus t-shirt to wear. If they have attended any of our camps THIS SUMMER (2017), please have them wear their lime green shirt that they were given already. Thanks so much!
Anyway, I am heading back to all of the fun!
Until next time,
Tigger (Hayley Graham)
