Day Camp 1 - Day 7

Hello from Camp,

I am sorry it has been a while since I have posted on the blog. My goal is to post everyday, but sometimes camp is just way too much fun!!

Yesterday, we had such a great day at camp! Our social skill yesterday was learning about 'having a conversation.' As our day camp sessions are 2 weeks long, we get to build on so many of the skills that we have already learned the previous week. Last week when we touched on this social skill, we talked about conversations having a beginning, middle, and end. All of our campers remembered this from last week...talk about amazing remembering skills! Yesterday, we played so many fun and innovate games such as "yes, and..." and the question game. Have your campers play these with you at home - try and get them to stump you.

In the afternoon, we had an amazing park afternoon. Campers got to choose between the chill zone or the high energy zone. At the chill zone, campers got the opportunity to draw, colour, play ukulele, play in the sandbox, make bracelets or garden. At the high energy zone, campers chose between playing kickball, frisbee, volleyball or soccer. So many options! It is so cool to see our campers using all of the skills that we have learned thus far. Also, one of our amazing campers got our first zucchini of the summer - I will post a photo later!

Today, we started our day with the Camp Wide Game, Mantracker! So many of our campers find such creative hiding spots...so many that I would just never think of. All of our campers are so good at working together, and collaboratively making a decision about where they want to hide.

After Camp Wide Game, we moved into our social skill of the day, which was bullying. We talked about what bullying is, and how we may identify a bully. Most of our social skill today, however, was talking about how we can stand up to a bully or what to do if someone is bullying us. So many of our campers opened up today about their personal experiences and were so eager to share. I am so happy that camp is a safe environment where they feel comfortable talking to their peers and counsellors.

This afternoon, we are heading to Flying Squirrel  - the indoor trampoline park! Everyone, including myself, are super excited to jump, jump, jump! There is so much to do including extreme dodgeball, trampoline slam dunk, and a foam pit. I guarantee that your campers will have some great stories when they come home tonight!

Unfortunately photos are not loading right now, but we will post them later!

Anyway, I am back to all of the fun...

Chat later,
Hayley Graham (Tigger)
