Day Camp 1: Day 8

Good afternoon from Camp,

What a great day we had yesterday at Flying Squirrel. Let's just say that the bus ride leaving Flying Squirrel was significantly quieter than the ride there...

Today has already been such a great day. We started our morning with an amazing game of Pokemon Go! One of our super creative counsellors came up with this game last year, and due to popular demand, it made a comeback this morning. In order to catch different Pokemon, campers had to try to get their Pokeballs into different buckets. The easier the Pokemon to catch, the bigger the bucket and the harder the Pokemon to catch, the smaller the bucket. If campers got their Pokeballs into the bucket, they acquired bling for their braid. On Friday, when the camp braids come home with the campers, make sure you ask them what Pokemon they caught today!

After Pokemon Go, we moved into our social skill for the day, problem solving. Campers got to participate in a wide range of activities, such as the electric maze and minefield. While last week we focused primarily on identifying problems and working through the size of the problem, today, we looked at perspective taking and communicating when problem solving. If campers wanted to solve the problem, they needed to communicate and work together in order to be successful.

Once we finished our social skill activities, campers got a chance to go to clubs! Our arts and crafts club made some very impressive finger painting murals and our sports club played some basketball and floor hockey. The fine arts club (a.k.a the Underwater Rockers) practiced their final performance piece, which will be showcased at our Awards ceremony later this week. Please make sure that you check your email re: attending the Awards ceremony this Friday at 2pm. We encourage family members to attend. There will be awards given out to all of the campers, along with some games and a classic camp snack!

This afternoon, we have just headed into choice programming. Campers get the choice of partaking in tie dye, water games or baking! Make sure that you ask your camper what 2 activities they chose today. I can smell the banana muffins baking from here...! Campers will be bringing home their tie dye shirts later this week. Well, we are just about to head into our end of day routine which consists of Steps in the Right Direction and a Zones Check In. I better get going.

Tomorrow, we will be heading to Cobbs Adventure Park!! Please make sure that they bring a hat, a water bottle, sunscreen, lots of snacks and a nutritious (peanut free, of course) lunch!

Photos will be posted later.

All the best,
Tigger (Hayley Graham)
