Overnight Camp 2 - Thursday

Sunny greetings from Goldeye!

What a full and wonderful day of camp. This morning was the last Polar Bear Dip of the week and almost half of this week’s campers earned the Polar Bear Dip Award. After a warm shower and a great breakfast, campers headed to the field for camp wide game. Campers and counsellors did their usual Zones check in and then we were finally able to play Hydro Pyro (which had been rescheduled on Tuesday due to the wet weather). This game has two teams with each team having a campfire on opposite sides of the playing field. Players must then infiltrate the enemy team’s side and try to put out their fire with a cup of water. The team who puts out the other fire without having their own extinguished is the winner. Campers then set their daily goals while they had a snack. Today’s Social Skill was Entering and Exiting Groups.

Once lunch was done, campers got ready for a very big afternoon. Activities included horseback riding, science & slime, waterfront activities, and archery. Campers were able to do every activity for an hour before cycling to the next one until the afternoon concluded. Supper was especially exciting tonight because we did Kangaroo Kourt. This old Camp Amicus tradition allows campers to make accusations against counsellors and staff in the hopes that they will be “slimed” for their crimes. Some of the accusations tonight included, “running on the bridge” and “having her elbows on the table at dinner time”. In the end, our friend Zelda was slimed for her crimes against camp and had a bucket of green, glittery water poured over her.

Since it’s the last night of the week, tonight was the End of Camp Ceremony. Campers made their way to the camp amphitheatre to watch performances, skits, and songs from their fellow campers and counsellors. S’mores were also offered and campers received their individual awards, including the Polar Bear Award. Campers who did the challenge for this week received a small silver bear, and campers who attended previous weeks—and did the challenge for two weeks—received a golden bear.

Tomorrow is the last day of the week. After breakfast, we’ll be packing up our things and loading up the bus. Right before we leave we’ll be watching the weekly slideshow, then it’ll be back to Foothills.

    See you then!
