Hey there!
Today was a great start to our third week of overnight camp. Campers loaded onto the bus at Foothills and we headed out on the highway. We had the usual stop in Red Deer to use the facilities and pick up some campers before arriving at sunny Goldeye. Campers met up with their counsellor groups and headed out on a photo scavenger hunt, allowing new campers to get their bearings and returning campers to have a refresher. After a quick meet up in the hall for a snack and introductions, campers headed to their cabins to get settled.
To keep everyone comfortable and secure at camp, each of the three cabins made a Cabin Contract. These rules for harmonious living encourage campers to contribute rules such as “ask before sitting on someone else’s bed” or “no bullying”. Afterwards, campers and counsellors moved to the field to play tonight’s camp wide game: Humantracker.
After a bit of free time, campers headed back to the hall for our first supper of the week. Once plates had been scraped off and tables were wiped down, Thumper introduced Campfire and encouraged campers to sign up to perform songs, skits, comedy acts, and plays. We ended up with ten excellent camper and/or counsellor performances tonight. Once the final song concluded, campers headed to the cabins for our bedtime routine.
There are no Monday Blues here at camp. Tomorrow we’ll be introducing campers to Zones of Regulation, daily goals, Social Skills, Choice programming, a camp wide game, Skills Training, and Capture the Flag.
More on those tomorrow,
Pippin
