Greetings from camp,
The rain couldn’t stop us today and we went full steam into all our Monday activities. We started the day with a chilly dip in the lake at 7:30am as part of our optional Polar Bear Dip activity. Campers and counsellors have the option to do this activity so they can earn the prestigious Polar Bear Dip award, but they must do it every day of camp (excluding Friday) to gain the award. After these campers had a warm rinse in the shower and the rest of camp got out of bed, we all headed to breakfast.
Before we began the camp wide game, campers and counsellors did a Zones check in. These Zones of Regulation allow campers to identify themselves with colours that represent emotions, making it easier to express their moods and feelings. Most campers were feeling green, which represents positivity and readiness for the day, so they joined on the field for Temple of Doom. This twist on dodgeball involves running from one end of the field to the other while dodging dodgeballs from either side. Several campers were able to get “gold” from the far side and retrieve them for their team.
The morning continued with snack and Social Skills, with Team Building being the skill of the day. Lunch was then had by all and campers excitedly transitioned to archery and arts and crafts. One camper hit a balloon with an arrow on the archery field! By the time these activities were complete, rain had started to fall and Choice activities were adapted to be indoors. These activities included banner making for our cabins, doctor dodgeball, and boat making (to later be raced on the lake, when it is a bit warmer out). The day concluded with a delicious dinner and a rousing game of capture the flag.
Tomorrow is a very exciting day. We have horseback riding, science and slime, hike, waterfront time, the Blowing Off Steam Social Skill, and a dance.
I just can’t wait!
Until tomorrow,
Pippin
