Hi Camp Families,
We are so sorry for our delayed post, but the internet went a bit wonky while we tried to post!
The rain clouds have finally dispersed here at Goldeye! We had lovely weather today and even a few patches of warm sunlight. After the usual morning routine of Polar Bear Dip, breakfast, and Zones check in, the campers played People Tracker as the camp wide game. Once goals for the day were established, campers did De-escalating Conflict as part of the Social Skills of the day. They had free time and lunch and then Goldeye programming began.
Here at Goldeye we have a group of excellent staff members who allow us to enjoy the ropes and challenge courses around camp. Today campers rotated between rock climbing and the team challenge ropes course, and were able to climb high up in the air (attached to a rope and harness). Several campers challenged their comfort zones and were cheered on by their friends as they worked either in teams to complete the challenge course or on their own as they scaled the rock climbing wall.
The weather was nice enough for waterfront activities so counsellors took the opportunity to add lake time to Choice programming, campers were also able to participate in button making or building balloon-powered race cars. The afternoon came to a close with a bit of free time and a barbeque dinner, then we played a game of Hydro Pyro. This game is similar to capture the flag as it involves players running into enemy territory to get to a home base. At this base is a small fire that the enemy team is trying to douse with water. After our game we got a quick snack and going through bedtime routines.
Goldeye programming continues tomorrow, as well as Choice programming, Social Skills that include Entering and Exiting Groups, and the camp closing ceremony. The weather is supposed to be spectacular so hopefully we get plenty of time at the lake.
Signing off,
Pippin
