Overnight Camp 2 - Monday

What a day at camp!

It’s been a great Monday out at Goldeye. We started our day with the Polar Bear Dip. This optional activity involves going for a dip in the lake at 7:30am and gives campers and counsellors the opportunity to get the Polar Bear Award: a silver polar bear charm that represents resilience and dedication.

After a warm rinse in the showers and a delicious breakfast, it was time for a Zones check in. This activity gives campers the opportunity to identify their emotions, and involves different colours that represent different emotions. Campers can say which colour they most relate to and this allows them to quickly and easily communicate their mood and feelings. After a camp wide game of Predator vs. Prey, campers created personal goals with their counsellors and had a snack.

For Social Skills today, campers participated in Team Building. One group did a version of Minecraft while the other built structures with marshmallows and toothpicks. After some free time, we had lunch. For the afternoon, we did skills training. For one hour campers made art using items found in nature and for the second hour they baked treats at the camp fire and built pixie fires. After a snack, Choice programming began. Today, campers were able to choose any two of waterfront activities, tie-dye shirt making, and a game called Minute to Win It. We then had supper and celebrated a camper’s birthday with cake, as well as giving her the opportunity to push her counsellor into the lake in front of the whole camp.

For evening activities, we played a few rounds of capture the flag. Afterwards campers went back to the cabins for bedtime routine. Tuesday is a big day! We have Blowing Off Steam as our Social Skill, Goldeye programming, Choice programs, and a game of Hydro Pyro.

    More on that tomorrow,
    Pippin
