Overnight Camp 3 - Thursday

Greetings!

Last night was a stormy one here at Goldeye but we’re all doing fine. After the usual Polar Bear Dip, breakfast, and Zones Check In, we headed to the field for a camp wide game. We then made our daily goals while enjoying a delicious snack and headed straight into Social Skills. Today we worked on Entering and Exiting Conversations. Due to the storm in the previous night, we made time for a morning Toes-Up Time so the campers could catch a quick nap if they felt like they needed it or relax in their cabins with books and card games.

After lunch, we had our big afternoon of multiple programs. The plan had been for the four groups to cycle between horseback riding, the hike, science & slime, and waterfront activities, but another encroaching storm prompted us to compromise. Science & slime was moved indoors, several campers headed to the field house for a game of Where’s Fred, and a few groups met up in the hall to play Cardio Pictionary. One group was able to complete their cycle at the horses, but for the safety of the campers and animals we thanked the wranglers and had them head home after the first ride.  A quick visit with a second group allowed a few campers to give the horses a pat and socialize for a brief period.

The weather had lightened up by dinner so we played a camp wide game of Where’s Fred behind the hall. This game is similar to Red-Light-Green-Light. One player takes a rubber chicken (hereby known as Fred) with them to the far end of the field. Fred is placed behind the player. The rest of the players need to run to steal Fred from the far side of the field without being seen, so when the first player yells “Where’s Fred!?” and turns around, the other players have to be careful to stop moving and stay motionless, or risk being sent back to the start line. The game ends when the players successfully steal Fred and get him back to the start without his travels being spotted. We also held Kangaroo Kourt after dinner and a counsellor was slimed for her “crimes against camp”. Most of these involved her “smelling weird” or “being too nice”.

Despite the lift in the weather, we decided to have our End of Camp Ceremony indoors. After some wonderful songs, skits, and plays, counsellors handed out individual awards to each camper. Polar Bear Dip awards were also handed out. Once our compromised camp fire concluded, campers headed back to cabins for bedtime routine.

We’re heading back home tomorrow. After breakfast, campers will be packing up their things and watching the end of week slideshow before heading onto the bus.

    Signing off,
    Pippin
