Overnight Camp 4 - Monday

Good morning from camp,

It was a lovely and crisp morning for Polar Bear Dip today. This Amicus tradition involves a voluntary dip in the lake at 7:30am so as to acquire the silver Polar Bear Dip award, and is given to all campers who do the Polar Bear Dip every day of the week. After a warm rinse and a hot breakfast, we did our Zones of Regulation. This involves campers identifying emotions based on corresponding colours, and is an effective and simple way for campers to express their emotions by saying which colour they are at the time. After this we had a camp wide game, had a snack, and set our daily goals.

We did Team Building today for our daily Social Skill. The two counsellor groups split up and did a variety of activities to encourage teamwork before having a bit of free time. The morning concluded with a delicious lunch and campers were able to sign up for their Choice activities. For the start of the afternoon campers cycled between archery and making banuk over the fire as part of our Skills Training block. Afterwards, campers were able to choose between waterfront activities, painting rocks, and screen printing for their daily Choice activity. Plenty of creativity came forth in a variety of campers and we have a large collection of beautiful art as a result! Once Choice concluded, we had dinner and—today was the birthday of one of our counsellors—we were lucky enough to have an amazing birthday cake for dessert.

We played a collection of dodgeball games as part of our camp wide game, as the field was too rainy to play our scheduled game of capture the flag. Campers then headed to the cabins and shower houses for their bedtime routine.

Our Tuesday programming is very exciting. We’re heading to the ropes course with the Goldeye staff for Goldeye programming, a new set of Choice programs, and hydro pyro.

    Goodnight for now,
    Pippin
